Get Involved: Virginia’s COPN program for years has served its purposes of supporting health care access, offsetting charity care, and controlling costs. The General Assembly last year called for a state work group to evaluate COPN and recommend program enhancements. After months of study and meetings, the work group recommended meaningful reforms to enhance the existing program and create a framework for future improvements as needed. Some 2016 legislative proposals go well beyond those recommendations, calling for major deregulation and repeal of COPN. Doing that would seriously jeopardize Virginia’s health care system, the thousands of jobs it provides, and the billions it generates for our economy.
